Pearl and Cecilia

The pregnancy was far from normal with constant bad news with poor growth. At 24 weeks I was told my "Baby B" had 2-4 weeks to live in utero. Pearl and Cecilia were born at 27 weeks due to severe IUGR, weighing in at 880 grams(Pearl) and 405 grams(Cecilia).

Pearl had MRSA in her blood a week or so after birth that took a long time to clear. She was on respiratory support until about 2 weeks before discharge. Pearl came home 17 months before her twin sister. Cecilia had multiple surgeries on her bowels from NEC. Oscillator ventilators, nitric oxide, liver failure, PDA's, colostomy bags, colostomy bag reversals, tracheostomies, ambulances, 3 different hospitals, surgeries, blood transfusions, extreme pain, code bells, and many other traumatic things can sum up our NICU stay.

Cecilia remained at CHOP until we brought her home after a long 601-day admission. With excellent medical care and amazing grace, my daughters are happy, healthy, and the lights of my life.
