Our journey to pregnancy led to the best surprise: twins! At our first ultrasound on 4/1/15, we were thrilled. A scare weeks later, initially thought to be a miscarriage, turned out to be a subchorionic hematoma. After a few days of bed rest, we excitedly shared our news.

At 24 weeks, complications arose—preterm labor scares and high blood pressure led to six weeks of bed rest. At 30 weeks, Twin A’s water broke, and I was hospitalized. We held on for two more weeks until they arrived on 10/20/15.

Thanks to early interventions, our twins, despite being two months early, were healthy at 5 lbs. each. They were admitted to the NICU as “feeders & growers,” staying for three weeks while I was discharged after four days.

Nothing prepares you for leaving the hospital without your babies, even when you know that WILL be okay. Driving home with empty back seats was heartbreaking, a memory that makes me cherish every moment with my now 9-year-old twins—even when they argue in that very back seat.
