Tiberious & Adalind

My twins Tiberious and Adalind were born July 8th, 2020, at 35 weeks. I was having extreme pain in my back, and I felt like my body was going numb every few minutes, so my husband brought me to the hospital. My doctor told me I was in labor and dilatating quickly. My daughter Adalind was in breech position, so we went forward with a C-section.

My son Tiberious was delivered first at 5 pounds 2 ounces and was having trouble breathing immediately, so he was put on a CPAP mask, and we weren’t allowed to hold him. They brought him to the NICU right away. My daughter Adalind was born at 4 pounds 8 ounces, and while tiny, she was doing slightly better than her brother, so they allowed us to hold her for a couple seconds before they took her to the NICU as well.

Tiberious was in the NICU for 10 days. He only needed the mask on day one and he was strong enough to breath from there. Adalind was in the NICU for 3 weeks due to lack of weight gain. We had to put her feeding tube back in a couple times because she had difficulty from feeding from the bottle. Our NICU experience was lonely, many friends and family members didn’t know what to say so they just didn’t say anything at all, making us feel so alone. However, going home without my babies was probably the most painful part.

Ti and Adi are now almost 3 years old, and they both have quite the personality. Adi likes to help feed her baby brother and Ti, of course, likes to teach his baby brother how to climb things he shouldn’t. We are just so grateful to be a happy little family, enjoying one day at a time.
